Developer’s Diary: 2nd Playtest Night

Image
Welcome Back Gamers! Our playtest board with temp art and temp meeples! Welcome back to another marvelous blog post by yours truly, with some behind-the-scenes work by Brett! This post will (hopefully) be a quick rundown of our latest playtest from this last weekend. Stick around for a brief sneak peek at our round mechanics, and how we're working in a very unique objective. To spice things up, we'll even foreshadow a few changes we're implementing that could show up in our next blog post! Quickly, I would like to provide a quick rundown of the dynamics of our game as well as mention the main objective. This board game is going to be focused around developing your tribe (growing from Warriors > Rangers > Elders) through resource gathering based on semi-random map generation, upgrading skills bought from a shared player deck, and fighting off the enemy tribes through dice-based combat. The main objective of the game is to transport one of your Elders across the ba...

Developer Diary: Halloween Update

Image
Happy Halloween Gamers! It has been some time since my last post I have shared with y’all, and for that, I apologize. I let the blog take a backseat for a few months, while I put some real effort towards reaching my goal of having the board game playtestable by the end of summer. Putting my nose to the grindstone really worked, so much has happened since we last spoke! So you better buckle up, and hold onto your seats... What was once a solo man’s journey has now taken form into a solid team! Allow me to introduce Brian Beardsley and Brett Kenney. Brian has a background in graphic design and a love for playing board games (right now he is pretty obsessed with Dune Imperium ). Brett has a background in human-centered design and loves writing D&D campaigns and murder mysteries. Both have been providing some really creative ideas and have helped  further the development of this game. I am glad to have them on board with this project. With that being said, we have begun usi...

Developing a Community: Game Designers

Image
Hey Gamers,      Gavin again, and I wanted to bring an epiphany that came to me today after a well rested week of vacation.      To get more critical feedback, I am in search of a devoted group of people that are following my next game idea. That being said, I need to utilize varying social media platforms to develop a community. It has been rather hard to get legitimate feedback from friends and family that I have shared this blog with considering that they are not in the realm of board game design. WHICH IS FINE. But I have received some good remarks from actual game designers (so far 2) and both mentioned very similar things.      A part that has brought up this epiphany is a podcast I have been listening to called Board Game Design Lab , which if you haven't gotten the opportunity to have a listen, I would highly recommend you doing so. The topics that Gabe covers with the varying members in this wonderful community provide so much resour...

Board Game Blog pt 2: Deception of the First Playtest

Hey Again Gamers, First, a personal announcement about blogging this journey:      So, there has been some time since I have shared any real updates with this board game idea. And to be completely honest, this game did fall back a little in priority with other events in life, hobbies and interests popping up.       Please note:  These updates take a lot of effort on my part and I am really putting myself out there for you to perhaps follow along this creative journey.      That being said, keeping the motivation to continue providing updates can be challenging at times. This is a passion project, and I have been doing a lot of thinking towards this everyday, and I want to hold true to this motivational motto for summoning the courage to continue to make these posts. "Strive to gain 1% each day".       So these updates will come unscheduled currently and are mainly to allow you to see what is going on at this curr...

Hello Gamers,      This is the first of hopefully many updates towards my first and current game idea. Thanks to supportive members of the community, we are currently naming this hexed. Which attaches both the hexagon aspect of the game but also the magical casting abilities of the game.
